As a child I became inherently aware that art was my calling. What I didn't realize then was that art would be connected to everything else in my life. My first degree was my B.A. in Fine Arts, half of which was art history classes. I followed up my first degree with a B.A. in History, seemingly repeating much of the history. For my history degree "exit" paper, I chose to write about the Columbian Exposition in Chicago, 1893. My focus was on women of the fair, particularly women artists. This was my "aha" moment, the moment when it all clicked. Art was our world's first form of communication, art is what connects us to others. Art makes us more aware, it makes us stop and think, it makes us self-reflect, it makes us look at the little details, it allows us to accept individual differences, it allows us to explore, and even problem-solve. Art is the basis for.... everything.
